Complaint

The DeSantis administration is revoking the Hyatt Regency Miami's alcohol license after one of its facilities hosted "A Drag Queen Christmas" with minors present in the audience.

The Department of Business and Professional Regulation filed a 17-page complaint Tuesday against the show's venue, the James L. Knight Center, which is affiliated with Hyatt. The show required people under 18 to be accompanied by an adult as a condition of being allowed to attend.

"A Drag Queen Christmas" is a holiday-themed drag show that tours in 36 different cities and features stars from the reality show "RuPaul's Drag Race."

The state's business department accused the facility of several violations, including a prohibition of "lascivious exhibition" before people younger than 16, though it's not clear to what extent this law is generally enforced.

The department said performers were "wearing sexually suggesting clothing and prosthetic female genitalia," as well as simulating masturbation.

The DeSantis administration is requesting that the hotel's liquor license be revoked. However, as the article states, the hotel is allowed to keep selling alcohol until the department makes a final decision and has 21 days to request a hearing.

Leaving aside the fact that it's horrible of the DeSantis admin to do this, this journalistic 'style' is well-past annoying to me at this point.

Anyone could legally take their 5 year old child to see, I dunno, Basic Instinct in the theater back when it was out if they chose to.

"Parental guidance" is just as acceptable in this instance as it was back then.

DeSantis and his ilk are insane.

Is there a law??
Define drag?
Is there a Drag Show Regulating Board, like the kind for alcoholic beverage commissions?
Are there strip club laws/ordinances? How are they enforced?
If this wasn't a drag show and if it was provocative, would it also be illegal?

Sounds like a made up mess!

looking for anything to be offended by, or searching for any statement to misinterpret as badly as possible just to have someone to scold.

I hope they eventually find the joy in their lives that's missing and causing them to deny it to anyone around them, if for no other reason than to stop their consistent exportation of misery and aggression.

I guess he thinks all his outrageous stunts will win over the base when he runs for president. At the rate he's going, he is bound to turn off just about everyone.

You know, Trump could pull outrageous crap because the base actually liked him for some reason and they didn't care about his policies. They have been very forgiving. I don't think DeSantis has that star power.

The path to fascism has been paved with some very powerful money and networking. The US is in deep trouble.

https://www.propublica.org/article/leonard-leo-teneo-videos-documents

Teneo is building what Leo called in the video “networks of conservatives that can roll back” liberal influence in Wall Street and Silicon Valley, among authors and academics, with pro athletes and Hollywood producers. A Federalist Society for everything.

A few months ago, Leonard Leo laid out his next audacious project.

Ever since the longtime Federalist Society leader helped create a conservative supermajority on the Supreme Court, and then received more than a billion dollars from a wealthy Chicago business owner to disburse to conservative causes, Leo’s next moves had been the subject of speculation.
Now, Leo declared in a slick but private video to potential donors, he planned to “crush liberal dominance” across American life. The country was plagued by “woke-ism” in corporations and education, “one-sided journalism” and “entertainment that’s really corrupting our youth,” said Leo amid snippets of cheery music and shots of sunsets and American flags.

The records show Teneo’s members have included a host of prominent names from the conservative vanguard, including such elected officials as U.S. Sens. J.D. Vance of Ohio and Missouri’s Josh Hawley, a co-founder of the group. Other members have included Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York, now the fourth-ranking House Republican, as well as Nebraska’s attorney general and Virginia’s solicitor general. Three senior aides to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a potential 2024 presidential candidate, are members. Another is the federal judge who struck down a Biden administration mask mandate. The heads of the Republican Attorneys General Association, Republican State Leadership Committee and Turning Point USA — all key cogs in the world of national conservative politics — have been listed as Teneo members.

This WILL work and will be very difficult to stop. It will be very confusing to corporate boards, and the default position for most will be to try to keep their head down rather than lose position, then many will see it as a chance to gain power with this rising rightwing fascist network, and the few that fight it too loudly in the boardrooms will be targets and sidelined.

It’s not about drag shows. It think it’s about rolling back DEI, ESG, workers rights, and LGBTQ, and creating a network that financially rewards conservatives for becoming more and more fascist than their peers, day by day, and creates a system to punish anyone who stands in their way.
