Those are state wide races. The original "gerrymandering" was when each state joined the Union. It's the Republican primary electorate that is nominating extremists for State wide office.

State Primary rules are a problem. So is the poor quality of primary candidates in Republican states. So is the whole world view of Republicans that allows that poor quality to persist in its ranks, right down to its voters. Extremists subvert government by subverting governance that works to do the most good for the greatest number.
