https://www.yahoo.com/news/donald-trump-jr-interview-kyle-093436538.htmlDonald Trump Jr. and Kyle Rittenhouse kicked off with a baseless claim on the Trump scions Triggered podcast on Thursday.
Rittenhouse in 2021 was found not guilty of homicide after killing two unarmed racial justice protesters in Wisconsin in 2020. He argued self-defense.
Talking with Trump Jr., Rittenhouse said the case had been scary because, without offering any evidence, hed been up against these George Soros-funded prosecutors.

(39,466 posts)Seriously, according to Rittenhouse, he bears absolutely no responsibility whatsoever for people being shot.
He obtained a gun illegally, crossed state lines with it, and pulled the trigger.
But he's being sued because of George Soros.

(18,309 posts)Along with the fact that Rittenhouse was effectively deputized by the LEOs (who bare significant responsibility for what happened by not vetting their "deputies" . Obviously he had no business being there, but he was retreating when first attacked. The prosecution could never make the case that he provoked the initial attack by the presence of the rifle. The later two shootings came as he was fleeing, but he wasn't fleeing the cops, he was fleeing the crowd.
Rittenhouse is slime and those who hold him up as a hero are even worse slime. I am not sure how estoppel will fit into the trial, but a jury has already decided that the shootings were justified under the doctrine of self defense. Hope they win, but it will be a hard road getting there.

(37,889 posts)The burden of proof is different in a civil trial than in a criminal one. So estoppel is completely irrelevant.
Had there been a conviction, it would have been helpful in proving the (easier to establish) civil claim, because the state already proved more than it would need to in a civil trial. But a finding of not guilty still leaves plenty of room between preponderance of the evidence (a feather more than 50% - the civil burden) and beyond a reasonable doubt (no reasonable person could have believed he was not guilty).
(Not to mention that the elements of civil claims are different from those in crimes.)
