what percentage of covid cases are actually being reported?

Seems like everyone just treats it like a cold now, in that they get sick but don't bother testing, or if they do, do it at home and don't report in anywhere.

I ask because I can't help but noticed in the last two weeks Michigan has reported 505 deaths but only 12557 cases. So covid certainly hasn't exploded to a 4% death rate. Even if we assume a 1% death rate, 505 deaths should correspond to ~50000 cases, meaning only about 25% of cases are actually getting reported.

Anyone seeing this out there in your states?

When I tested positive, I followed the CDC guidelines but I didn't report. Deaths are the only thing to look at. Massachusetts reported 168 last week, 112 this week. I guess the post-holiday spike is slowing but COVID is not going anywhere. Contemplating a second booster...

Recommending a second booster, and if so at what time schedule?
3 months , 6 months ? I know they are talking about a new bivalent in the fall, but I don’t want to wait till then if a second is recommended

Key Takeaways

The updated bivalent COVID-19 booster shots will likely provide immunity lasting up to four to six months—similar to what earlier shots offered.
Since the updated boosters were only approved back in August, we’ll need to see more data to know for sure how long they’ll offer protection.
Experts say that COVID booster immunity will also be affected by different factors, like previous vaccination, natural immunity from a prior infection, vaccination rates in communities, and any future mutations of the virus.

I know so many folks who have had it in the last month, people who are vaxxed and careful, so you know there's a lot of it around. People just prefer to ignore it

Didn't know the brand name of the test I took, which was needed to report it.

I did call my MD and reported it, asked questions about quarantine and if I needed paxlovid or other treatment. My symptoms were very mild, boosters up to date, MD said unless I symptoms got bad I didn't need anything.

I wondered the same thing, what percentage is being reported?

8. family group with multiple covid cases - who was reported?

Over Christmas our family group of 8 that got together, resulted in 7 covid cases. One was a youth. Of the 6 adults, 3 got Paxlovid and 3 did not. All 6 contacted their doctor but did not actually visit them. Positives were determined by home testing and all had at least some symptoms. So did the 3 who received Paxlovid get reported as cases? Or did all six who reported to a doctor get reported even though the doctor did not examine them? Or did none of them get reported? Or some other number because there were 4 or maybe 5 doctors involved. The one who escaped covid was also a youth. The doctors who refused to prescribe Paxlovid all had different reasons. It is almost as if treatment was at the whim the the individual doctors. I was one who got Paxlovid and the symptoms dissipated quickly. I was negative before the 5 day pill regimen was completed.
