Long Covid has an 'underappreciated' role in labor shortage, study finds

https://www.cnbc.com/2023/01/30/long-covid-has-underappreciated-role-in-labor-gap-study.html

Long Covid — also known as long-haul Covid, post-Covid or post-acute Covid syndrome — is a chronic illness with potentially debilitating symptoms.
About 18% of people with long Covid hadn’t returned to work for more than a year, according to a report by the New York State Insurance Fund, state’s largest workers’ compensation insurer.
The finding adds to other research suggesting long Covid is contributing to a labor shortage and hurting the U.S. economy.

How many positions are open because they were someone’s second or third job. Between increased minimum wages and the changed hiring field AND those COVID checks many people don’t need extra side jobs.

I’ve talked to more than few people who said they cleared all kind of debt away during the pandemic.

From Jan 2020 until April 2022 there were 977 total cases for workers comp filed on account of long covid. And 80% of those 977 cases were closed within one year.
That's right. 977 out of 20 million in more than two years. That is the basis for the claim there is a worker shortage on account of long covid.

At no point did it claim Long COVID was the only reason for a labor shortage.

First out of 20 million, about 800 thousand 4% are going to be unemployed. Workman's comp is injury sustained on a job. How about people who simply can't work because they're sick, fired for taking too many sick days, gig workers who got COVID on and off the job, and people who can't work because they're taking care of a family member with long COVID. It's entirely plausible that long COVID is a contributing factor to a labor shortage.

and can't admit you are wrong. At no point did the article say Long COVID is the only reason for the worker shortage. Workman's comp is not the only factor in determining those who are missing work due to Long COVID.
