Biden Transition team concern about Military coup.
70 plans of what might happen.
I knew concerns had been talked about. Hell I knew something was going to happen but not Jan 6th that is until I heard the speeches of that day.

(8,471 posts)at all given to Biden's incoming administration. Isn't there a law that requires that be done, and did Trump break that law?

I have that book in my wish list on Amazon. It was supposed to come out today!
Edit to add: I went ahead and bought it. It will definitely be my next book.

(42,131 posts)I gotta say that one review that I read covers a section of the book that puts Kamala Harris in a pretty bad light -- comments by her staffers -- re her ability as a leader, and how Biden is bothered by this. Not good news for 2024.

(51,075 posts)We hear so little about Kamala Harris and when we do, it is often rather lackluster.

(42,131 posts)if her leadership were potentially presidential, praise would be coming from her staff, instead of complaint. Staff always want to be proud of their leaders.
I believe it because, even though Harris doesn't have to be perfect, if any of her support network feel that she's disorganized and insecure because of that, and/or reveal that her deflecting and blaming underlings reaches a point where a few have to critique it, that's not a good sign.
PatSeg
(51,075 posts)that isn't a good sign. It is a shame, as I was really impressed with her as a senator. Perhaps becoming Vice President was too much, too soon. That often happens in politics.
Oh well, I'll reserve judgment until after I've read the book.

(3,420 posts)Book is about the transition and early part of Biden first two years, fears about Trump and the military, and period before Russian invasion of Ukraine.
I think she could have interviewed just Whipple. Michael Schmidt book about John Kelly and Trump has already gotten a lot of airtime, too much imho.

(7,080 posts)someone thought the military would actually engage in a coup. Does someone know way more than most of us? Scary stuff.

(38,883 posts)In fact the US military from the Joint Chiefs on down HATED Chump and they couldn't wait to be rid of him.
Let's realize that Chump is no Mussolini, and he's no Hitler. Chump isn't even a Putin. The only bargaining chip he had left in his arsenal on January 6th, 2021 was the screaming mob that stood outside the Capitol building. January 6th was never going to be a successful coup. Certainly not with military participation of any kind.
I do want to read this book when it comes out because it seems that Chris Whipple put a lot of time into researching it. It sounds like some good background info is in this book.

(10,234 posts)....can't help but wonder what their actual actions or responses might have been if Trump tried to use the military.
So they weren't just walking around deaf, dumb, and blind.

(58,785 posts)That was the email the White House chief of staff, Ron Klain, sent to Chris Whipple at 1.16 am after the 2022 midterms, as it became clear Democrats were likely to hold the Senate and lose far fewer seats in the House than almost every reporter predicted.
Whipples inside look at Joe Bidens White House is a ringing confirmation of Klains judgment.
Though Whipples friendships within the Washington press corps prevent him from saying so, this is a book-length rebuke of the incompetence of legions of reporters who have persistently underestimated this extraordinary president.
A NYT reviewer evaluates it as a valuable book on the first half of an unfinished presidency, which includes many fights, that will remain so long after it's joined by histories of the entire term.
