Instead of posting tweet with an article embedded in it, just post the article!
Click on the article in the tweet and just post that link, not the tweet itself.
Why do people continue to post tweets instead of an article in the tweet? Rhetorical question.

(30,109 posts)I don't click on a video, I need a reason first from the poster, and not just, look at this, unless it's an animal video.

(33,643 posts)like to spam us with (well, everyone that uses the 'latest threads' tab, anyway). Especially boring are the vids that only show an album cover the whole video long.
I can find these vids myself, or type the song name into Spotify and listen anytime I want.
I want to read WHY someone is posting this music video. Did you attend a concert of this band? Was the drummer in your class in school? Was this song special to you growing up, and why? Does this song have one of your all-time favorite guitar solos? Is the drum work amazing? Is it of superlative song quality? Those sorts of things.
I do occasionally post songs, but never in the form of 'here's this song and picture of the album cover'. It'll usually be newer stuff (or at least not a song everyone on DU has heard 100+ times in their lives), or live stuff from the past. I usually talk about what's special about the song and/or artist and/or this particular performance.
Others consistently make this effort too, but some folks can't be arsed. Same as with the 'news' videos.
Sorry ... pet peeve

(92,811 posts)Why not post some paragraphs from the article or even just a short explanation of what it's about ?
Hugh_Lebowski
(33,643 posts)But it takes a LOT of plain text to equal the bandwidth required to display a tweet, because of all of it's formatting and icons and CSS and whatnot.
Just sayin'

(51,150 posts)Meanwhile, I'd prefer an article over a tweet any day. Also, since Musk bought Twitter, I've made an effort not to go there whenever possible.
I never cared for Twitter to begin with and now I like it even less.

(39,466 posts)but I think people do it because it's faster for them.
A post with the title of the article (or at the very least a hint of the subject matter) and a couple of paragraphs is more likely to get my attention.

ETA: If something is worth a posters time to post, it seems worth a little effort to provide context.

(39,030 posts)I share your annoyance with the DUers who don't take the time to describe or explain the video they are posting. Also people who post a tweet without even copy/pasting the text of the tweet. That's just rude because many people on DU can't see what's in the tweet, their security settings won't allow it. It's also lazy and inconsiderate for posters to do that.
However I've spent some time on Reddit, and perhaps a few other forums where posting in that manner is accepted. On Imgur there are no tweets allowed with live links, however people seem to post screenshots of tweets pretty regularly.
I hope DU makes a rule that live tweets won't be allowed in the near future. Posters will need to click through to the original material - it's almost always available somewhere outside of Twitter.
