AZ-01: Marlene Galan Woods, widow of Grant Woods, exploring a run for Congress against Schweikert

ARIZONA, USA — Marlene Galan Woods, the widow of former Arizona Attorney General Grant Woods and chair of Democrat Adrian Fontes' successful campaign for secretary of state, says she is considering whether to challenge seven-term Republican Congressman David Schweikert in 2024.

"I want to flip that seat," Woods said in an interview.

"I'm a moderate Democrat. That seems right for the district. I'm interested in voting rights - that's the No. 1 issue - common sense gun laws - and reproductive rights."

Woods said she had been approached to run by Democrats and Republicans after the November elections. She said she switched her party registration from "lifelong Republican" to Democratic when Donald Trump became president.

Since her husband's death, Woods has raised her public profile, with her role on the Fontes campaign last fall and at a protest calling out disinformation.

Woods has given herself 90 days to make a decision on whether to run.

I find it disheartening that a former Republican is the best we can do?

Any of the Dems that have recently run against Shitbag could win given more robust support.
I know this because I've campaigned for them.
We are always fighting with the handicap of little money due to lack of faith that we can win by the higher ups.

I'll tell you one thing: I'm not going to campaign for Woods.

I don't have much of a problem with switchers. I have a real problem with Repubs who are OK with T****

Any one of them could have won with more support from the higher ups.

If you have no problem with Republicans before Trump, why bother being a Democrat at all?

A little different than "no" problem. Depends on what they do after they switch.

Got a chip on your shoulder?

Why bother being a Democrat at all if you accept refugees from the Republican Party? Gee, lemme think....

I'm just extremely frustrated by the awesome Dems that have run against Shitbag with inadequate support and lose time after time.

And, then to be told by others that they know who's better to be my representative than me.

But it wasn't you who did that, so I apologize.

Sorry to hear about your turmoil over there. I appreciate your apology. It takes a big person to do that.

Sounds like somehow, the national Dem structure has to pay more attention (and send more money) to Arizona Dems. At least the crazy fucks for the top line positions (Guv, AG, etc) were thwarted. But people like Biggs and Gosar...sheesh!

Living in Texas, I think I know how you feel. The national D's have apparently given up on electing more Dems in Texas too, and we're still under the yoke of Abbott, Patrick, and Paxton.
