(8,453 posts)This probably means McCarthy does not have the votes and they need to regroup to figure out whom to nominate if he bows out.
will not bow out, this is what he wanted for years. Just my opinion.

Join Democrats or not. Democrats only need 6 republicans.
EDIT: The vote didn't happen.

(3,446 posts)They're mostly from the Freedumb Caucus, and mostly election deniers and the equivalent of feces-flinging, circus monkeys. If any GOPers join Democrats in a consensus vote, it will be ones from the "Problem Solvers Caucus".

(22,760 posts)I'd want them to put the oversight committee back together and ditch the fake hearings about fake conspiracy theories.

(111,698 posts)Of course, the R's either don't know that or figure that they figure that they will quickly pass some backend measure to get them paid after the fact.

(13,003 posts)I don't think that the majority of members of the house (or senate for that matter) give a rats ass about their salaries............
There is so much money to be gotten by being a U.S. Politician, other than their normal pay........
Why else would there be millions or tens of millions spent, just to get a job that pays 200K? a year along with some rather juicy benefits???????
I would love to see an accurate, truthful statement as to the worth of every last member of the house and senate........and the massive increases in many of them, in their net worth, since gaining office.......
Again, my thoughts turn to the French guy in the 1700's, when our Democracy was first established, when he said:
"Democracy will work until some group or politicians figure out that they can vote themselves money".........

Guess they want to close the US Capitol so the media doesn't get video of the moving of "McCarthy's Stuff"
back out of the Speaker's office.

(22,637 posts)I wonder if McCarthy would have the vote. At first glance, it seems like they make up much of his opposition, and little of his support.

(84,534 posts)They just nominated McCarthy
Hortensis
(58,785 posts)a leader of the renegade crazies who can actually make McCarthy look fairly mainstream in comparison.
Republicans have now made history by nominating a second black members for speaker (our Jeffries the first), but that's not the reason for nominating him, they do not seek to judge people by the color of their skin.

(58,785 posts)to their party's second day, or at least a bit of a reset. The seditionist party's version. Both Republican candidates, including Donalds, voted to stop certification and the transfer of power. We just aren't able to appreciate it.
Maybe in its way it was also exactly Herschel Walker class.

(7,964 posts)They are voting. There have been so many wrong predictions from pundits and posters, maybe they should just wait and see.

(12,025 posts)Enough votes to adjourn. They are voting now and Kevin has lost already. 8 votes for the new Florida Black mascot. Really. A freshman not even sworn in to take highest position in GQP. I need a different snack. Popcorn is getting old. Maybe we should break out the Kale. We should take shots every vote against Kev. Be a lot if trunk Dems out here.

She is a slippery, self promoting, snaking in the grass.

She got rid of Liz Cheney.

(21,778 posts)I didn't get a chance to turn on the TV or go online until a little, so I'm playing catch up lol. And it looks like they're doing a fifth vote, and Boebert just nominated Byron Donalds.
Did she refer to Trump as "the president" just now?
Warpy
(114,045 posts)but not enough of them to keep the House adjourned and Jeffries wins a Speaker vote, one hopes the ones who storm out will be censured, or in the cases of assholes like Greene. Boebert, Gosar, Jordam, and a few others, are expelled, forcing the states to hold special elections with real candidates instead of obsessed morons, maybe this can turn out OK.
There are constitutional remedies for disruptive assholes. There just need to be enough adults in the room to use them.
