Redistricting bummer - from Katie Porter to Young Kim

Last election, I voted for Katie Porter. Then, redistricting happened and Porter was no longer my Rep.

Now, it looks like (R) Young Kim won my district by 30,000 votes. Ugh.

I hope Katie wins. Too close to call right now.

How did an unfavorable to Dems redistricting happen? Was it related to the census?

I hope Porter pulls it off.

We have independent redistricting.

Yes the Democratic Party controls things in California, but we have pockets of Deep Red here too and we do not cheat to win. We just have better policies.

Most states gerrymander and it's allowing a minority to remain in power.

Pardon my language but fuck "not cheating" while everybody else does it for a minority of extremists to attain power or remain in power.
We can gerrymander and still have better policies. Better policies don't do anybody any good if you can't pass them.

(I'm from CA).

Sometimes a good result happens, other times not so good. Parts of Orange County and parts of San Diego County can be rough for Democrats still. I am fortunate enough to be in a pretty blue part of the state. We redistricted too but both reps in the area are Democratic.

But gained Salud Carbajal—at least he is also a democrat.
I’m not familiar with him. That district used to be Lois Capps when I lived there before.

I’ll miss seeing Julia at our local 4th of July parades.

The Central Valley and North of Sacramento are quite red, although rural and with fewer votes.

In theory it does away with gerrymandering. And in theory that's good, but in practice it is dumb because Repukes gerrymander the shit out of their states and we've unilaterally disarmed our biggest state.

If we can't pass great laws because everybody else gerrymanders but we don't and that gives the bad dudes control and power.....we all suffer.

I’m near Ojai. I didn’t even realize our district had changed until I was filling out my ballot, and my usual Congress person was not on there. I realized it said 24th when I’d previously been in the 26th.

I had to call the elections office to make sure I didn’t have the wrong ballot. (Silly me.)

At least both districts are safely blue.

Go Katie Porter. We all have our fingers crossed on this one.
