I can feel after a couple of plays that the Steelers are going to lose the game.
My intuition about tomorrow is that it will be a glorious day for democracy, I can feel it. My intuition is as good as polls, better than polls.
Pa. will lead the charge flipping a Magat Senate seat.
Honestly, I feel calm about tomorrow, I have a chance to go golfing today, the weather has even co-operated. I have a feeling I am going to play well.
My positive vibes about tomorrow are out there in the universe.

DU is full of people who dont understand anything but fealty to the scientific method or strict adherence to so-called logical standards. Example: when one expresses something like what you have, they will pipe up with there is no evidence that
DU can be unfriendly to intuitive types.
On the other hand, speaking of logical explanations, I heard Michael Moore explain his reasoning for his position that there will be a blue wave. I was impressed, just from the standpoint of logic. If anyone has not heard or read it, its worth checking out.

When Trump won in 2016, I was the guy thinking (but not saying) "Told you." When I told my friends 2020 would be frighteningly tight in the battlegrounds, they thought I was insane.
I really do not have any firm bold prediction sense of how tomorrow will go. The firmest intution I have is in a Republican House. My spidey sense says a close Democratic Senate.
I really do think we may see an election decided by the little things in the tightest of races. A storm here. A cold snap there. Little turn out factors could have outsized influence.
There is the tiniest voice in my head going, "Maybe Dobbs really is hidden in all this." But whether that is true or exists as a bit of copium running for things I wish to be true remains to be seen.
We'll see what we see.

(34,006 posts)I'm having to bug them to vote. It's like the local election when you have to pull teeth to get people to vote.
I had a list of 450 voters. I block walked three days before early voting. I decided to take the first day of early voting off because I know a bunch of people will be knocked off the list on that day. Boy, was I mad when I synced my MiniVAN and only a few had voted on the first day of early voting! I spent Tuesday and Wednesday hauling my ass. Then, last week: still. I had to go bug 150 people. Usually this group votes early. I've got 30 people I'm gonna bug today. Some of the 450 just aren't gonna vote. It was worth the effort, but their voting histories aren't the best to begin with.
Voters can say one thing, but whether they vote not is another. I have people with Beto signs who have not voted.
Sympthsical
(10,734 posts)Just my sense of things, but I never get the impression that regular people have the kind of wild enthusiasm about Beto that the online activist quarters do. Like, he just perpetually runs for things. That's it. What else has he really done in the past five years outside of promoting himself for office? Given Texas's general demeanor and that they've been living with attacks on reproductive choice for some years now (so, kind of inured to it), it sort of felt fatalist there over the past year.
You're there, that's why I'm asking. Just my perception from afar.

(34,006 posts)We also don't have a slate of state-wide candidates who have the experience that the GOP has. They never get far up enough to get the credentials/experience. Beto is our best choice.
Real politicians in Texas, don't want to give up their "real job" for political suicide, so here we are. In 2018, we had Lupe Valdez run for governor. The state party promoted her in the primaries. She was a lesbian, low energy, retired sheriff, who was kinda forgetful. (Often kinda zoned out) Beto is 1000% better.

We need to fix the EC and the most efficient way would be to replace the Permanent Apportionment Act with a new one, adding seats to the House and a rule to make sure that states with large populations would always be appropriately represented instead of losing seats because some state with a tiny population still grew fast for whatever reason. It would require some adjustment in terms of meeting and office spaces, but it would ensure that the popular vote and the EC vote were at least in the same ballpark as well as giving people better representation.

(30,827 posts)I have one lifelong friend left alive and she is a racist closed-minded bigot, so we don't talk much. But neither of us can entirely cut the other off because we love each other. Her daughter is also "conservative" (a word I think is a misnomer applied to the republicans of the 21st century, but that's a different discussion), but we're still fb friends. I mean I drove her mother to the hospital on the day she was born.
So anyhow. On 1/6 we had a conversation on fb and she was defending the "protest" which was by that moment becoming a full fledged riot and she commented that at least they weren't violent. She lives in Portland and believes that BLM protests were fueled by Antifa terrorists or some shit. Anyway I responded that a woman had been killed (I'd just witnessed Ashli Babbitt's last moments on PBS). She deleted her comment and said no more.
Fast forward to a couple days ago. This woman has 2 daughters of childbearing age. She posted that meme about "Don't forget to turn the clock back one hour on Sunday, and don't forget to vote on Tuesday to keep the clock from being turned back a century."
I read that as an admonishment to vote BLUE. I didn't react to her post at all, it's that dicey that I would not want to inspire her to delete it or somehow try to turn it into a message to vote trumpian, but what do you think? Is it possible that her daughters' well-being means more to her than being republican?!
i sure as hell hope that's what it means, and i'm just saying if so, she is not the only one. I can see thousands or possibly even millions of people voting for abortion rights in this election. I think it is possible that the republicans screwed themselves by rescinding Roe.
Women are people. We love who we love. That should absolutely matter more than clinging to a repressive and hateful ideology.

Many Texans are apathetic. Many are poor. Just saw three people tonight who thought they could vote tonight. (We were putting up campaign signs at the polling site) They said, "Can we vote now?" One man said he drove 3 miles to vote. Early Voting ended on Friday, November 4th. That's the way it is. We told him to come back tomorrow. I think the polling has been skewing GOP/conservative Asshole for last ten years as fewer and fewer people answer their phones or take polls, and those that do are mostly of the conservative/older demographic.
I have a very good feeling about tomorrow, too.
I think there are a lot more people terrified of fascism than the pollsters and the news let us know about (or are finding) than there are people who want Republicans.
And there might be a lot of Republican women who are telling their friends and family they'll be voting Republican but who are pissed off about men trying to regulate their bodies they'll secretly vote democratic, and never admit it.

(2,005 posts). . . I read somewhere recently that a woman's "first blood" doesn't happen with her period; it happens when she bites her tongue.
We've been told to "keep silent" or "just sit there and look pretty" for a looong time. Older women are realizing that they don't have that much to lose, so they are speaking up. Younger women haven't internalized all those oppressive patriarchal voices and they speaking out and walking out on men who are not worthy of them and institutions that don't value their voices.
It's a beautiful, workaday, grassroots rebellion and I love it!
I don't claim to know what will happen with this election and I am an avowed rational empiricist. But I have a certain amount of faith in the young people coming up today. Are some of them flaky and shallow and addicted to their screens? Yeah. But so many of them are savvy and curious and aware that their futures are not safe in the hands of climate change deniers and politicians who are only interested in maintaining the status quo.
For their sake, much more than for mine, I hope that tomorrow's elections moves the needle toward progress. History may repeat and/or rhyme but it never really goes backwards. We can lose ground and lose certain rights, but change drags everyone forward one way or another. People with flexible minds who are willing to embrace change and work with reality are the ones who will save our species. Those who act from fear or resentment against change can only hold us back--they sure as hell can't "make us great" again.

(5,827 posts)I keep saying this is not a normal year for the mid-terms, Dems will win a majority in the House and Senate. Too many Americans despise what mcchickenshit (thanks to a fellow DUer). Cannot wait for the results tomorrow night, Fingers and toes crossed that Dems will kick the rethugs into the minority. Vote and get the vote out, democracy is on the ballot. Good luck my friends.
