(3,665 posts)The bottom did not get a tax cut.
People who had more than the SALT cap did not get a tax cut, because itemizing limits hurt if you have high property taxes.
Last year the rates on middle class started to increase and will continue to increase as the posion pill the Rethugs put in the bill to pay for the corporate and uberrich gifts.
A small sum in the first year and more taxes over the next 3 is not a tax cut. It is a scam.

(16,910 posts)Also, the standard detection probably would have increased a bit, regardless.
So, yes, the standard deduction went up (I think it was from $6500 to $12,000) , but the net effect wasn't very much.

(18,273 posts)Our taxes go up every 2 years after the initial cut. Some, like my household, fell into a donut hole where we have paid more and more every year since 2017, including the year everyone supposedly paid less.
I have been paying student loans for decades. I havent missed a payment. Ive more than paid back the cost of my education. Im basically stuck paying the banks now. I welcome some relief even if you and the GOP think Im a freeloader.

(18,963 posts)it took me a long time to do it and DH.
But, we're not petty enough to demand that we get our paid-off loans refunded to us.
We're happy for people who will be able to move forward in their lives, without the sword dangling over their heads.

(472 posts)so they should stop researching it and not cure anybody else's. Same for my dad and massive heart attacks. Fuck your targeted chemo and coronary angiograms!
(Just in case somebody doesn't realize what their objection to student loan forgiveness actually sounds like.)

(39 posts)Their MO is to divide the middle and lower class while the 1% keep collecting their spoils. Yes, there should be more, there CAN be more, but anyone who's going to begrudge someone poor or middle class for having student loans paid off is a part of the problem.
