The seven Democrats most likely to run for president -- if Biden bows out

President Biden’s statement this week that it “remains to be seen” if he’ll run for reelection has prompted more Democratic chatter about whether they’ll have a different candidate for the White House in 2024.

If Biden doesn’t run again, a number of Democrats are expected to wade into the presidential waters. But even Vice President Harris isn’t seen as a definitive leading contender in such a situation, Democrats acknowledge privately.

-snip-

Here’s who is generating the most talk and the most confidence.

Kamala Harris
Pete Buttigieg
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer
Gov. Gavin Newsom
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.)
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.)
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.)

Jay's 71 and I think he loves being back in the PNW after so many terms in DC. He might even run for a 4th term; he'd have my vote. Stability, competence, and no drama.

Maybe he'd take a Sec of the Interior position, but it's really pretty out here.

Elections are not won on flipping people over to the opposite party.

People almost never ever change parties.

Elections are won based on getting your own party excited enough to leave the house and vote.

women voters now, particularly since the Roe decision. Hillary had Bill's baggage, so to speak. I don't see that with Gretchen at all. She got to the position of Governor. The women's movement is on the move. I don't hear anything negative about our having a woman VP.

Polling has shown 75% of the country doesn't want Biden to run again. Many say it's because of his age. Sanders, whether you like him or not, and I like both him and Biden, is even older than Biden, so that doesn't help us any.

I think AOC is very smart, but she's a polarizing figure. She would probably do the most good in the House or running for a Senate seat, but I don't think she has any chance of winning in the general.

I like the other five, though Newsom has dimmed considerably in my eyes after he announced plans to come to Texas ahead of the midterm, which will hurt Beto's campaign.

I would vote for Warren or Buttigieg, but would be happy with any of the five.

I think he's the perfect Governor for California and I'd vote for him ANOTHER 10 elections here...

I'd vote for him for POTUS in 2024 too...

But people don't understand the whole California stigma thing across the country.

There are MANY states where it's recommended that if you're moving there, take your California plates off ASAP because of the anti-California hostility.

California doesn't "play well" in the Rust Belt/Mid-West ranging into the South and Southeast.

I'm not so sure that Newsom would have WI, MI and PA in the bag...

Having said that... he'd be an OUTSTANDING POTUS.
