I understand the reason to worry about a new civil war. Agents have been trying to reignite it ever since they started seeding the south with the myth of the Lost Cause and dropping monuments across the south.
And, of course, that bunch loves their guns and loves to stockpile them for the day they must "once again" rise up and "defend" the south, or at least, their homes.
But rebellions are hard to start and harder to maintain. We've seen it tried over and over - The OKC bomber, the Charleston church massacre, OK & PB agents provocateur in Mpls, J6 and now the MAGAt who attacked the FBI with a nail gun yesterday.
The best chance that this would happen was J6. It was organized, funded, strategized and executed to be a coup at the moment of transfer of power. But, the attackers were a minority of the overall crowd. Some of the crowd were never there - they didn't go to the capital. Others were on the outer rings cheering but not engaging. And afterward, most of MAGA simply denied it happened.
They had to deny it. They had three choices - stand up and start the revolution, admit they are too comfortable/lazy/scared to get involved or deny it happened. Because nobody wants to risk what they have for a fantasy of what might be.
I've been there. I've been a member of the "burn it all down and start over crowd" when I was young. Eventually, I realized that that line thought is the product of lazy thinking and entitlement.
It's lazy thinking to believe that you "just have" a popular uprising, win and not recreate the same old mistakes. It's entitlement to believe that you are going to come out on top and not get run over by the mob.
These guys talk a lot and they were emboldened by TFG but they blew their best chance to coalesce into a real movement.
These terrorist actions, however - we do need to worry about those. Those are going to continue especially as disconsolate MAGAts watch their heroes and messiah go down one by one. Each one trying to spark the revolution.
We need to push back on the bullies. Our passiveness emboldens them. Beto was absolutely right when he called that heckler a "motherfucker". Beto did more to defend our children in one word than Republicans have done in decades.
These guys believe we don't have guns, that we won't fight back, that we won't push back.
It's long past time we started pushing back. Make MAGAts afraid again.

Warrants should be served complete with SWAT team to seize their weapons.
Give the bastards what they fear with prejudice and no nonsense.
Agree with you. Some of the bastards have revealed themselves and provided an opportunity to be proactive.
Apologies to actual bastards particularly if Democrats.

(48,133 posts)was that the beneficiary of the insurrection still held the reins of power and many paths of opportunity were made available for the insurrectionists.
That is not the case now, although it could happen again, which is why the next couple of elections are critical.

(26,557 posts)We are not going to have a "hot" civil war. We are, I think, already in the middle of a "cold" one.

(16,374 posts)Ive been saying the same thing. We may (and probably will) have some random maga terrorist incidents but a civil war wont happen. People are too comfortable to risk they and their families lives for a Donald Trump.

(12,316 posts)are the same ones who watch cable news all day.
It's tedious to have a conversation about politics with many of them because they live in a world of hyperbole and opinion as opposed to hard news.
One of my friends feels like he's more informed than anyone else because he's glued to the TV. He couches it as a sense of duty to stay on top of current events, and, in his mind, he knows more than anyone else. In reality, he just parrots what he hears on TV.

(51,308 posts)But sure, I understand south bashing is always popular here.
I could make a list for you of states represented in January 6, and I could point out this nut yesterday was from Ohio. Tfg is from NY. I could go on.
But really, I just can't be arsed.

(558 posts)I know. I grew up with them in midwest. They may have never set foot in the south but they dream of the day "the south will rise again" and they will supposedly run to its aid.

(40,027 posts)Of that a fair amount will vote for the R candidate no matter who he is. They voted for Romney, McCain and Bush 43 in the past. Not all who voted for TFG are Magahats.
Of the 75 million who voted for TFG, only about 30k of them bothered to go to DC for the 1/6 protest. Out of that, about 800 attacked the Capitol.
