Tonight, in Mineral Wells, Texas
When a @GregAbbott_TX supporter laughs, yes, laughs out loud so everyone could hear, while Beto described the massacre of 19 children and 2 teachers in Uvalde, Beto quite appropriately lets loose with a MF.
Yep.
It was a pretty good one too.

(7,794 posts)The desperate-for-a-headline media loves to invent Democratic internal disorder. Every time they make such an accusation stick into the minds of the voters; we get stuck a little on our way to an electoral victory. So often there is a WELL REPORTED miscommunication or "live mike" error, usually framed as a gaffe or some other derogatory term by that same headline hungry media. Democratic "spokesmen" then, predictably, rush to clarify the candidate's meaning. They fool no one but themselves if they think that's appropriate. Candidates need to OWN their unmaskable warts. It will ultimately endear them.
That's because the media openly treats Democratic candidates differently than Republicans and it's the Democrats who get stuck with the foul, every time. Despite the trash that comes out of Republicans' mouth, both-siderism digs up, misrepresents or creates something embarrassing a Democratic candidate is supposed to have said or done. That is their "nonpartisan" reporting in action.
Democrats need to support each other without reservation during the campaign season. If a reporter asks their take on what Beto said, or any other controversial language by any other Democratic candidate, they need to respond with a no-holes-barred, "it is about damned time someone calls it like it is". It is a winning strategy that doesn't waste a lot of money. Double down and dare the media to misquote. Make quoting accurately way too valuable to risk with a misquote or some lame spin. The media is what moves the undecideds every time.

The Republicans are overjoyed that the Dems are not the party of violence and that the Repubs feel they can say and do anything they want, no matter how despicable.......
I truly wish that some major news outlet showed the Color pictures of some of these children after the shooting.
With a tag line across the bottom of the streaming pictures: BROUGHT TO YOU BY THE REPUBLICAN POLITICIANS........
When I was in high school in the 60's, drag racing was a big thing. One night, eight? teens were in a convertible going thru an intersection when a drag racer going at a high speed T-boned them. All eight teens were killed instantaneously. The authorities put that car they were in on display on the front lawn of high schools around the city. The reduction in teens drag racing was immediately diminished.

Voters like to see a sense of authenticity in candidates, especially in Texas. But cursing and vulgar language in front of children and the elderly more often than not crosses the line.

(13,505 posts)"Cocksucker" is my favorite. I'm waiting for someone to use it.
BruceWane
(371 posts)"Cocksucker" is a homophobic insult, as are all variations.
I know the euphemism that something "sucks" is so widely used that it's almost never seen as offensive, but it's a condensed version of the original expression "sucks cocks/dicks", as if that is the most horrible thing that one could do. It's very much a product of a culture of toxic masculinity, toxic heterosexuality.
I hope you'll think about it, and try to stop using these terms. There's plenty of other ways to express disapproval, disgust, etc.

(353 posts)human slug, Cruz. At least on two occasions, Cruz, roared out a hearty laugh at something Beto said. I could see that it bothered Beto but he trudged on in a civil manor. Now, after stewing in the memory of that jackass, Cruz, braying, Beto took advantage of the opportunity he missed in the earlier time. Power to you, young man. So many Texans need you to lead our beloved Lone Star State back to some degree of normalcy, consideration for all our citizens ~ compassion, protection and kindness.

(3,138 posts)In fact, i can picture quite a few -- the witch woman and the pizza guy come to mind-- but I can't remember their names. Yet some, like Stacy Abrams, Hillary Clinton, and Beto, who lost an election, regroup and come back stronger. They and others like them weren't running to win an election, but to win for a cause, and the cause stays, just like Clinton, Abrams, and Beto stay. These leaders will never be losers or quitters; they just become stronger and more influential. Hecklers and media don't dislodge them any more than bad weather. (Why shouldn't kids watch them?)

(2,809 posts)I'm not really a west coast native, early childhood in the Lone Star state. Yet I really want to relate something I overheard at a BBQ restaurant when I was a mere tyke from diners at the next door booth perked my ears up:
Obviously this was some sort of Dallas politician getting campaign advice from some other stuff suit: I'll never forget his words to that candidate:
"If you find yourself with a tough question, just fall back on saying "I do what Jesus leads me to do" and it will get you out of any tough spot."
I inadvertently learned some wisdom far past my years in one eavesdropped moment.
These "conservatives" are convinced of entitlement to a truth they believe, with no regard to how twisted or reprehensible.
Doubly so since TFG.
