This Is How a Totalitarian Society Is Born

https://eand.co/this-is-how-a-totalitarian-society-is-born-8ddf2bd9d812

Yes, it’s a revolution. Rights under their greatest attack in modern history. Soon, women won’t have autonomy — and after? Right about now, you’re probably wondering: what do these lunatics, these religious fanatics, the extremists that the right has become even want?

You’re probably wondering because on the face of it, their positions make no sense whatsoever. They seem paradoxical, idiotic, and tendentious at best.

They say they don’t want women to have “abortions,” because life matters to them. But of course if life actually mattered to them, they’d be vociferous proponents of everything from public healthcare to free medicine for everyone to giving nature rights, too, because of course it’s alive also. But they’re not just against all of that — they’re fanatically against it.

They say they’re for “freedom of speech,” over and over again, like some kind of bizarre mantra — but meanwhile, if some teenager asks them to use certain pronouns, they’re bullied, harassed, hectored, and hated. So they can’t be for freedom of speech — not really — because if I say I’m for that, then presumably I support yours. Why did pronouns and so forth turn into such a flashpoint, anyways? They’re a little ridiculous and maybe they make the adults in the room roll their eyes and maybe they even lead to confusing grammar. And that’s about it. There’s no reason for them to be met with this kind of maniacal rage, which gives the game away — it was never about free speech.

You can see that, too, in the way that women and minorities and anyone vaguely sane is afraid to speak out, or told not to. America’s newspapers have done a fine job of telling people not to protest at Supreme Court Justice’s homes — even though it’s completely appropriate when they’re taking away the rights of more than half the country. Hello, have the morons that edit these papers ever heard of a certain march from Selma to Montgomery? Of the Edmund Pettus Bridge? Do they really think that civil rights would have been won without civil disobedience? Here, in the case of American media, we’re literally dealing with the stupidest people on earth, who legitimize the far right, while delegitimizing democracy, while pretending to be on its side.

Professor Crane Brinton's 1930s book "The Anatomy of Revolution" remains the classic study of revolution, and his observations on the classic political revolutions - American, French, English 1688, Russian - are applicable today to this ongoing slime fest being thrown at us. Well worth the read.

Those millions of republicans want an authoritarian gov't but they mistakenly think they will be the few thousand elites actually in charge.

Those millions are useful tools for those who will actually be in charge.

One poster called it a 'new social feudalism age'.
