Amazon to cover employee travel costs for abortions, other treatments

Amazon.com Inc. (Nasdaq: AMZN) told employees Monday that it will cover some travel costs for U.S. employees who receive medical treatments, including abortions, according to an internal memo viewed by the Business Journal.

The policy, announced to corporate and warehouse employees on the company's internal site, said the Seattle-based tech giant will reimburse employees up to $4,000 per year for non-life-threatening medical procedures that aren't available near the employee's home. Amazon has confirmed the details of the memo.

Reuters first reported on the internal message.

The announcement came before Politico broke news Monday on a leaked U.S. Supreme Court draft majority opinion that supports the overturning of Roe v. Wade.

They may have to examine whether or not they want to continue doing business there.
