5. Reminds me of the time I took a trip to St. Petersburg Russia.

Our tour guide pointed to a headless statue and told us that when the Russian regimes change, the simplest way to recycle the statues is to remove the heads to a storeroom for possible future use, and attach a new head representing the new ruling party. Apparently there had been a recent local shake-up, and the switch hadn’t as yet been completed.

and there is some evidence they even recycled the heads, themselves. One example would be Caligula getting his frilly hairdo cut down and some wrinkles carved in to serve his Uncle Claudius, who succeeded him.

A few Pharaohs did the same thing, although they wee more likely to smooth down inscriptions and redo them on existing statuary. Exact likeness wasn't important to them, at all..

I wonder whose head will appear on the friendship statue when this is over. I think Joe Biden would object, he doesn't seem to be impressed with that sort of thing. Andrzej Duda? Macron? Queen Elizabeth?
