Personally, I would like to amend the Communications Act to reign in some of the FCC oversight lost as a result of the 1984 Cable Communications Act and the Telecommunications Act of 1996.

If we decide to become like them, they have won. And you are not getting your free speech back.

(4,839 posts)The best thing is to flood the airwaves, TV and social media with truth.
We need to get better at confronting the lies and disputing them with truth. Loud and proud.
I am not giving up my right to free speech.
But, yea, maybe we need a way to make those who lie face consequences. We could start by telling people that they are lying when they are. I am sick of people who use milder accusations when someone lies like: That is misleading or Those are alternative facts or Thats not completely accurate.
Come right out and say: You are lying.
And as someone else just mentioned, Welcome to DU. I hope your time here is enjoyable and inspiring.

Deuxcents
(24,375 posts)Free speech is a double edge sword. I enjoy my right to voice my opinion n believe we all should. What I am against is purposely putting out fictional information to sway, confuse or corrupt the narrative. If these facts are proven false, they should be made to say so..but..its already out there n most wont see the retraction. Most dont care or know how to search for the truth..they just take the pablum and believe it.

. news reports. In a court of law they claim what they do is entertainment and so not subject to regulation.
I say: regulate the hell out of them. They are a propaganda network on behalf of a foreign adversary/foreign enemy.

(99,807 posts)That would be a good start in cleaning up our airwaves and our national ability to talk to one another. I dont think doing that counts as suppression of free speech at all, given how incredibly destructive they are.
