'I will die free': Unvaccinated Burke County man denied kidney transplant by hospital

BURKE COUNTY, N.C. — A Burke County man’s decision not to receive the COVID-19 vaccine means he also won’t be getting a much-needed kidney transplant.

Chad Carswell, a double amputee who has undergone several major surgeries on his heart, now faces a different battle. Carswell told Channel 9′s Dave Faherty his kidney is only operating at about 4%.

Dialysis three times a week keeps him going, but the solution is temporary.

“Without (a kidney transplant) there’s no telling how much longer I’ll be here, I have to have a kidney to prolong my life,” he said.

All that's fine. Also, attach artificial legs to him, operate on his heart, and run his blood through machines several times a week. He objects to none of this - far riskier and rarer intervention than a vaccine that over a billion people have had, with almost no risk. But he'll die rather than take the common treatment.

Why did the interview with him not include a question about this? If someone announced their intention to commit suicide, you wouldn't just run it on the new without asking why.

And as for "dying free" - he's already hooked up to a dialysis machine for many hours a week. If he wants to "die free", he should stop that.
