Over half of Americans in new poll say Supreme Court should uphold Roe v. Wade

WASHINGTON – Nearly two-thirds of Americans say the Supreme Court should uphold its decision in the historic Roe v. Wade case that ruled abortion access was a constitutional right, according to a Washington Post-ABC News poll.

The poll, conducted Nov. 7-10, found 60% of Americans believe Roe should be upheld, versus 27% who believe the high court should overturn that landmark decision.

Three-fourths of Americans, 75%, further said that a person's decision to get an abortion should be between them and their doctors; only 20% said the state should regulate the procedure.

The poll also found only a slight majority of Republicans support overturning Roe outright; 45% of Republicans said they want the ruling overturned versus 42% who said the court should keep the ruling in place. A majority of Democrats in the poll, at 82%, and independents, at 58%, said the court should keep Roe in place.

1. I know very few, including many Republicans, who believe Roe should be overturned.

I wish I had more to comment, but I'm just a dude who wouldn't have an abortion but believes wholeheartedly in a woman's right to choice and bodily autonomy.

As they say nowadays, women's rights are human rights.

2. A bit OT, but does any other law exist purely because of the Roe v Wade decision?

i.e. if Roe v Wade was overturned what other laws would be at risk?

My feeling is if Roe v Wade was overturned the Supremes would be saying that certain constitutional protections are no longer valid... and if that's the case then other laws would also be unconstitutional.

Of course I'm not a lawyer.... Ehehe

Not sure what else this protects. I always wondered why it doesn't cover, let's say, my right to take steroids. In my 20's I could never understand this. I kinda still don't.

you'd never hear a word about abortion. In fact, you could get an abortion at your local 7-11.

5. I find it surprising how many Americans think overturning Roe will outlaw abortion everywhere

Overturning will be horrible for those of you in Red states, no doubt. But a huge amount of people don't have the facts on what overturning Roe means.
