With Italy and France shutting down again, question...

I have not heard how Europe is doing on the vaccine front.

Are we where the bulk of the doses are going?

Asking for a friend.

Snip

"I don't think the conditions in Europe and the situation in Europe is necessarily predictive anymore of what's going to happen here because we have much more immunity in our population both from prior infection — which they have as well — but also now from vaccination," added Gottlieb, a board member of Pfizer, which makes a Covid vaccine.

About 9.5% of the vaccine-eligible population across member states in the EU and European Economic Area have had at least one Covid shot, according to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control. Roughly 7.5% of Italians aged 18 and up and 8.5% of Germans aged 18 and up have had at least one Covid vaccine dose, per ECDC data.

By contrast, 27% of the adult American population has been given at least one Covid shot, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

But now variants are spreading.

Coronavirus cases are rising exponentially in Germany, officials warn, as continental Europe braces for a third wave of infections.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said it was likely that the country would now need to apply an "emergency brake" and re-impose lockdown measures.

France, Poland and other nations are also reintroducing restrictions.

German Health Minister Jens Spahn has said that Europe lacks the vaccines needed to significantly reduce cases.

IMHO, most of the USA will barely miss another wave. Because we have a bigger number of folks vaccinated. If April vaccine supply doubles like the rumor is, then by May 1 we will be at almost 50% vaccinated...

The variants have simply outpaced the vaccinations in the EU.

If we were one month ahead with inoculations we would be soooo much better. But we are not... (Thanks to T****!!!!!!!)

Only some care-givers and people over the age of 80 are currently getting vaccinated. You can only get vaccinated when the government says so, and it is forbidden to give left-over doses to anyone who wants it. They must be discarded. My wife and I are 69 (she in June, I just turned 69) this year. The Health Ministry told us MAYBE in August.

I just barely made it in and out of France last Wednesday. It may be another month before I can get back there. I usually have to be there once a week. Now they are shutting down for a month--again.
