Joe Biden doesn't have a cranky bone in his body. But he does stand up for the oppressed and he does it passionately.

I apologize if I misinterpreted your connotation. "Cranky" applied to Joe, seems like "shrill" used against Hillary and other women. In his case to emphasize an age stereotype, as opposed to a gender stereotype.

I've never, tbh, heard "cranky" as exclusively for older people. I'm a parent and I can tell you right now, you ain't seen cranky like teenagers on the last day of summer vacation or winter break. All due respect.
