About 23,000 Georgia teens who were not eligible to vote in the general election on November 3 will turn 18 and become eligible in time to participate in the runoff elections on January 5, according to The Civics Center.
StudentsFor2020, which estimates they helped 65,000 students register for the general election, is mobilizing hundreds of volunteers in high schools across the state to register new voters, and to try to sway existing moderate voters.
A bipartisan group of Georgia teens is trying to flip the Senate by enlisting thousands of students to vote in the January runoffs.
The political organization, StudentsFor2020, was founded by four high school students, two Trump supporters and two Biden supporters, with the goal of registering young voters across the US in the places where their votes would matter most in the general election. They estimate they helped 65,000 students register to vote.
Now they're focusing their efforts on flipping the Senate by registering thousands of newly eligible voters and mobilizing hundreds of teen volunteers to have real conversations with high school students across the state.

(2,937 posts)They did that marvelous punking when donnie thought he would have a huge turnout at one of his rallies and instead he had empty seats galore. It's so wonderful that they are involved with their future and care about it. Go kids!!!

I know it was bipartisan but lets hope its a lean to the left.
Power on GA!

(7,715 posts)Let's not kid ourselves: many of these new voters will be Republican supporters, especially in Georgia.

(2,372 posts)I guess I'm really lucky. All the kids I know, and I know a lot, are progressives.
Now that you remind me of that little jerk, I can't imagine him participating in something like this.

(18,272 posts)Many of the boys were very conservative and chauvinistic. I think it was part of their macho culture.

(16,374 posts)most young people are further left than their elders. People that act macho in high school may not necessarily be that way a few years later. Of course there are conservative young voters but they're a minority.

(2,372 posts)I still remember the time, when my husband and I were both in the Navy and working on the same base, I went to his squadron for some reason or another, it must have been work-related or I wouldn't have done it, he repaired airplanes on the macro level and I repaired airplanes on the micro level, and I walked in and caught him with all his subordinates and it was like he was a different person. Those of them I knew, it was like they were different people as well. It was quite shocking.
