Power went out early in the storm. Came back on for a bit and then went off again an hour later. Still off now. Using battery backed up everything. If still off when the sun comes up we'll start the generator.
Wind still gusting but not as much. Rain still pouring and roads have closed due to flooding. The flooding is pretty bad and will be worse by morning. We are on high ground but must cross the bayou to get anywhere, so...we'll see.
Thankfully it is a lot cooler now than it was back in August for Laura. Cool inside the house.
Neighbor lost his fence early on. It was damaged by Laura and not repaired yet. Delta finished it off. Some of it landed at the back of my property but most of it landed on the railroad tracks.
Same idiots who didn't secure their trash cans last time will be looking for them again tomorrow.
We have a shed for ours. Open on one side but we secured them to the cement pad with bungee cords. The pad was poured with hooks embedded for this purpose.
No bad damage as far as we can tell using flashlights. Tree limbs down in yard, along with assorted debris.
Some kind of animal, a few of them by the sounds they are making, has gotten into the storage buildings. Probably looking for safety. We'll worry about what they're up to tomorrow. The vents at the top sides of the buildings are easily pushed in, I guess. I hope the animals are OK. The vents can be replaced. I'll open the doors so they can get out that way once the sun is up.
Hurricane season ends November 30th. Thrill. Thrill.
Everyone in the house is sleeping, except me. I'm the type that needs to wind down. Everyone else is out the second they hit the bed. Most annoying.
Thank you to everyone for their well wishes!
Solly
EDIT to add: Beautiful, blue sky day today. Got a nap in and then some chores. Animals were raccoons. Sassy and fat. Left when the door was opened. Power is still off but that's life. Generator running, so have power for the important things - coffee!
Thank you everyone!!
Solly

(5,936 posts)Flooding is a real problem. We get flooding here where I live in Texas every time we have a gully washer. We're prepared though so we can ride out most problems. Sounds like you are the same way, prepared for what comes at ya...
With light there will be lots to explore, stay safe.

*A joke for the older people who remember the music offers (Record Club of America) through the mail. If you didn't send the "No" card back on time they would send you that month's selection and bill you for it. Ended up with records you didn't want.

(20,233 posts)Just had a botched operation on my arm in an attempt to install a new dialysis port. Two hours and he decided the vein wasn't as good as he thought. Now he has to do it again. At least he knocked me out and sent home some goodies for the pain.
Still, I can't complain. At least I have electricity for my oxygen concentrator so I'm way ahead of you. hahaha
Take care.
Solly Mack
(95,872 posts)Yikes on the botched operation.
The doc, one of the many, who did my cancer surgery sewed too tightly and later when I was awake enough to eat some soft food the stitch snapped. The doc who fixed it cursed the whole time because he said I kept telling him it was too tight. He was mad. Especially since I was awake for the fix - had to be done then and there - and it hurt like crazy. Tears rolling down my face hurt.
Got morphine after.
Was very grateful. Didn't want to eat at all after that though. No matter how soft.
You take care!

Fortunately Delta came in as a Cat 2 vs Laura's Cat 4, so the in relative terms, the winds weren't as tornadic-like as seen from Laura, although some of the chasers I was watching speculate there may have been some tornados or funnels that briefly ripped through some areas (there was quite a bit of roof sheet metal stripped from the mobile homes and other buildings in the Lake Charles area). Because the NWS Lake Charles Doppler Radar was destroyed by Laura, there was a "radar hole", and that radar might have been able to confirm "radar-indicated" tornadoes if it had been operational and if there had been any.
The other fortunate thing was that Delta was not meandering/drifting along, cutoff from some steering mechanism, like Laura or Sally (it was moving at a moderate clip and is currently moving at about 16 mph), so that somewhat mitigates the potential for the type of extreme/excessive rainfall that the earlier storms produced. However Delta did produce upwards of (and possibly beyond) 9 ft surge to the east of the eye, notably in Vermilion County (Freshwater City).
It still breaks my heart that as people were still trying to clean up from Laura just 6 weeks ago, in comes a new storm right near where Laura blew through. In many cases, they were set back to square one and in others, Delta probably "completed the destruction job".

We'll be getting some rain from Delta's remnants up here in Philly sometime Sunday night, through Monday, and into Tuesday morning.

During the recovery phase, I kept having these nightmares where I was trapped with my dog in floodwaters on a highway, and the only way out of there was to walk tippy toe on a guard rail while holding my 30 pound dog in my hands straight up in the air as the water was up to my neck.
Good times!
Things eventually got back to normal, and both of the dogs were fine.

(12,226 posts)Wretched luck having the storm track so similarly as the last. Could not believe it when I saw the predicted movement on the weather maps. Hopefully, this will end your area's streak for the season. Not wishing it on anyone else but two storms like this back-to-back is a little much for any community to bear.
We're getting your left over rain here in E. TN. Tons of it but no wind to speak of. Wouldn't be surprised if flood alerts are issued by tomorrow
