..."I'm not trying to pretend to be a fair juror" he's actually saying "SOMEBODY! PLEASE! DEMAND that I be RECUSED FROM JURY DUTY!"

The same thing applies to McConnell. When he says he's coordinating his strategy with the White House lawyer, he's BEGGING for people to demand his recusal.

This is actually an OUT for Republicans, that nobody is taking them up on. The same thing is true for the 50 Republican Senators that co-sponsored Lindsey Graham's resolution saying that the Impreachmet was dead on arrival in the Senate, and that 50 of them had already PRE-JUDGED the Impeachment to be invalid. They're BEGGING to be FIRED from the jury!

This is an obvious OUT for Republican Senators. Forcing Democrats and others to demand their recusal would leave only the Democrats left to form the Jury. Remember that the Constitution doesn't require that all 100 Senators be present. Just a quorum, which could be comprised by the Democratic Senators and three republicans that didn't sponsor Graham's resolution. Those 50 Senators could breath a sigh of relief, feign outrage, go home and tell their bat-shit crazy base that they WANTED to acquit Trump, but those damned elitist Democrats found a loophole that prevented them from voting. And they'd be rid of Trump, but WITHOUT having to be blamed for it.

They've shot up a flare, and nobody is rescuing them. Why not? Maybe the Democrats don't WANT to rescue them from themselves. The Democrats WANT them to have to vote to keep an obvious crooks in office, to hold that against them in the next election.
